Great news for the planned hydraulic beach fill project to take place in the winter and spring of 2023. An additional $8.5 million in federal funding is being added to the project, bringing the total funding commitment to $27 million. The joint Avalon/Stone Harbor beach fill project was advertised on September 28th with the intention to open bids for the project on November 2nd. It is anticipated that the project will begin late in the first quarter of 2023 and be completed in advance of the hurricane and tourism seasons. The beach paths currently closed due to the aftermath of hurricane Ian will remain closed until the hydraulic fill project re-builds the damaged dune system, allowing the paths to reopen.
