Extensive repairs to the Avalon Boulevard Bridge over Ingram’s Thorofare are expected to
begin during the week of March 8, 2010 and continue until May 27th, 2010. The project will include some
intermittent lane closures on weekdays, but not on weekends. This bridge is the high span bridge on
Avalon Boulevard.

Beach Fill Contract Awarded

(Avalon, NJ)—The Avalon Borough Council formally awarded a contract for an emergency beach fill project
that will be conducted this spring in the resort.
The contract was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock
Company, LLC of Oak Brook, Illinois.
“I am very pleased that this emergency beach fill project will move forward”, said Avalon Mayor Martin
Pagliughi. “A beach fill for the north end of Avalon is desperately needed following the repeated
nor’easters that have impacted our community”.

Dune Grass Planting

Volunteers are invited to help plant dune grass on Saturday, April 17th, 2010. Everyone is welcome to participate in this important project.
Volunteers should report to the Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street and Avalon Avenue at 8:30am, where donuts and coffee will be served.
A brief demonstration on planting will be given. Special designed tools for planting the dune grass will be provided. All volunteers will then be transported to the planting sites by Avalon Borough trucks.
In the event of rain, the dune grass planting will be postponed until Sunday, April 18th, 2010.

Winter Trash Services

Avalon’s Department of Public Works announced that it has begun the off-season practice of offering a manned location for the drop off of household trash and recycling. Sunday hours are noon to 5 PM
All residents and visitors - the courtesy trash and recycling collection area at 15th Street off Dune Drive by the Public Works Department is open year round Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Residents are urged to use this courtesy to help in keeping Avalon beautiful.
Don't forget to mark your cans, so they can be retrieved if the blow away in our frequent Nor'easters!

Avalon/Sea Isle Beach Replenishment moves forward

A major emergency beach fill project that may result in more than 1 million cubic yards of sand being placed on beaches in Avalon and Sea Isle City this spring took a major step forward on Friday, January 8th.
A bid opening was held for the project at the Avalon Borough Hall, and Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC of Oak Brook, Illinois presented the low bid for the project at $10.406 million.
The bid presented by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. results in a cost of $7.02 for each cubic yard of sand that will be pumped onto the beaches in both Avalon and Sea Isle City.
Avalon is expected to receive approximately 500,000 cubic yards of sand that will be placed on beaches from 9th Street south to 26th Street.
Sea Isle City will receive approximately 700,000 cubic yards of sand that will be placed on beaches from 73rd Street, south to 94th Street. This major beach fill project will occur during the spring, 2010 and completed in time for the summer 2010 tourism season.
Avalon and Sea Isle City will finance the cost of the beach fill project with local dollars and seek reimbursements as the project moves forward

2010 Beach Tags

Pre-season beach tags may be purchased weekends beginning April 3 at the Beach Tag Booth at Community Hall. Other beach tags may be purchased daily May 1 through September 6 at the booth on or beginning June 1 from beach tag inspectors on the beach. Beach tag fees are: pre-season (purchase on or before May 31) $20.00; season tag (effective June 1) $25.00; weekly (Saturday through Saturday) $12.00 and daily $6.00. Reciprocity of beach tags is observed between Avalon and Stone Harbor
