Situated at the entrance to Avalon, the Avalon Elementary School is a first through eighth grade elementary school. Currently, there are 76 full time pupils receiving a quality education with small class sizes.

The Avalon Free Public Library opened to the public in 2005. Since its opening, the library has continued to grow as an education and entertainment center for residents and visitors alike.

The Avalon Historical Society was formed in 1997 with the intention of collecting and preserving the history of Avalon New Jersey. Since that time the Historical Society has engaged the Avalon community and beyond with a variety of programs, exhibits, and artifact collections. Besides the educational programming, that has come in the form of authors, first person historical interpreters, and folk singer/storytellers, the Avalon Historical Society has been a leading civic organization in Avalon.

Located at 117th Street and 2nd Avenue in Stone Harbor, the American Legion Post serves 262 veterans from Avalon, Stone Harbor and various other locales. The building is a 1895 U.S Lifesaving Station which is registered as a State and National Historic Site. Veterans give public tours of the facility during the summer season. Murals and storyboards highlight the US Life Saving Station, the US Coast Guard and military history. Also housed at the facility is the original/restored USLSS Long Boat, the military museum and the Lookout Tower with its incredible ocean views.

Situated overlooking 6,000 acres of pristine coastal wetlands, the Wetlands Institute is knows as “The Natural Place to Have Fun Learning!” At the Wetlands Institute, we promote the conservation and preservation of coastal ecosystems by providing a fun and educational experience for families, school groups and vacationers of all ages. Here, visitors can learn the exciting facts about life in the salt marsh environment. Throughout the year, many species of birds can be seen from our viewing areas.
As you browse through our site, you will see the many attractions we offer to visitors, as well as the extensive array of educational programs available throughout the year. Be sure to visit in September for the annual Wings 'n Water Festival. The Institute hosts over 40,000 visitors each year.

Since 1892, Wells Memorial Presbyterian Church has been "the church away from home" for vacationers of many faiths. Services are held every Sunday during the summer season from early May to late September. Invited clergy provide the spiritual leadership while temporal affairs are administered by a committee of property owners who are active lay people in their home congregations. The church has no members. Maintenance of the sanctuary and the on-going program are made possible from those who worship here.
