In
his 'State of the Borough' message, the Mayor
highlighted the accomplishments in the Borough
in the last twelve months:
- Completion
of the sports complex at a cost of $2.6 million.
This year there were 12 sports camps with about
150 attendees each week.
- The beach
fill project was completed.
- A Code Enforcement
and Ordinance Enforcement Officer, Paul Short,
has been hired. He will monitor things that
affect the quality of life in the Borough, e.g.,
trash, dumpsters, signage, etc
- The Zoning
and Planning Boards have been consolidated into
a single board with dual responsibilities. The
Board has developed new construction and building
zoning codes that will have a long-term effect
on the Borough. These will have a big effect
on the way the borough runs in future.
- In 1999
the voters overwhelming approved a LOSAP program
for the volunteer fire company members. This
has had a very positive effect and there are
now 35 members in the company.
- Defibrillators
will have been installed in every municipal
building, police car, fire and emergency vehicle
including fire trucks by the end of 2003.
- The Community
Library will be a state of the art facility.
The Library Commission was sworn in during February
2003 and has been meeting frequently to develop
the programs necessary for the facility.
- Federal
and state grants have helped the budget. The
Borough has the ninth lowest tax rate in the
state. It has obtained a new Moody bond rating.
- Activities
at the Senior Center have been expanded under
the guidance of Sue Keene.
The major expenditures
that will be encountered during the winter of
2003 will be the seawall project and continuation
of the Dune Drive rehabilitation project. Work
on Dune Drive will be starting again in September.
Work will be starting on the Public Library /school
expansion project and a skateboard park will be
constructed near the Community Center.
