| Work
has started on the second stage of the Dune Drive
project. Between 22nd and 27th Streets the existing
storm water system is being replaced and expanded.
A new gas main serving the north end of the Borough
is being installed. The final surface on the portion
between 33rd and 27th Streets including striping
and decorative crosswalks should be done within
the next few weeks. This phase of the construction
will cause some temporary driving and parking
problems. The contractor must provide constant
pedestrian access to all businesses except when
the sidewalks are being poured. The Chamber of
Commerce and the Borough have posted signs at
intersections along Ocean Drive and First Avenue
to direct people to various businesses.
Dune Drive will
be closed to traffic while storm drainpipes and
utilities are laid across Dune Drive, and while
the road surface is laid. Parking will be restricted
on Dune Drive, but not on the side streets close
to residences and businesses.
A contract has
been issued to resurface the numbered streets
between 33rd and 19th from First Avenue to Ocean
Drive. The work has started on streets east of
Dune Drive. Homeowners in the area have been notified
of the work, and that there will be a five-year
moratorium on street openings for utilities after
the resurfacing has been done.
Further information

web site at www.avalonboro.org.
From the Annual
Meeting:
Q:
What will be done about paving 28th Street, and
when? What can be done about parking on 28th Street?
Can the realtors and Avalon Property Management
be forced to provide parking for their employees?
A:
28th Street between Ocean Drive and First Avenue
is part of the Dune Drive project. Resurfacing
of 28th Street will be competed by the time the
Dune Drive project is finished in 2004. As far
as parking is concerned, older properties with
multiple curb cuts will have those curb cuts reduced
thereby increasing the amount of on-street parking.
Q:
Will Ocean Drive be repaved after the Dune Drive
project is complete?
A:
Ocean Drive is a county road and it is up to the
county to schedule repavement operations. The
road was last resurfaced around 1990. The borough
will have to check to determine when the county
has scheduled repavement.
